Sacred Places

July 9, 2012 in Cathedral Exterior

This post has come off the back of a slight break in posting. Unfortunately life has gone since my last post and it’s delayed me getting some new things on here. But I’m back and below you’ll find some of my very favorite shots from recent trips to Italy.

1. Ravenna, Santa Maria in Porto. This was a really special church. The sun was pouring down when we came across it.It was really special, the front doors were spread wide open, we arrived not long after a service and were able to walk the length of the church. But the outside was what has stuck with me.

2.  Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, La Firenze Duomo. The entrance of Florence Cathedral.

3. Arcibasilica Papale di San Giovanni in Laterano. I adore this place, the facade has captured my attention every time I’ve been in Rome. I have tried on each occasion to capture the facade of this magnificent church. Beautiful.

4. San Gregorio Magno al Celio. This is the monastery Gregory the Great founded . It was really special f0r me!

Gothic Tombs, Exeter Cathedral

February 21, 2012 in Cathedral Interior

I took this rather interesting photograph trying to play with the light and most of all include an image of both tombs which I felt was important. I captured Bishop Edumund Stafford in the foreground of the shot Bishop from 1395 – 1419. In the background you can see an earlier predcessor Bishop Walter Branscombe 1258-1280. It was Bishop Branscombe who began the Gothic building in the choir areas of the Cathedral and also built the Lady Chapel alongside his tomb.
